2024-08-24: back at it

i haven't spent this summer the way i expected. i wanted to play more flute (i didn't). i wanted to write a lot (well, i wrote a bit). and i did want to finish off all the composition work i've been doing; that at least went exactly as planned.

so having finished off the project associated with that, i'm now back to trying to get my routines re-established around everything else. i've started running regularly (i have a couple races in september, a 3k and a half marathon). i've been pecking at some poems, practicing my flute a bit before work, guitar and fiddle after. is it enough? yeah, probably not. but something's better than nothing, and doing something not as well as you'd like is better than not doing it at all.

which is to say: working on syrinx has been a bit of a failure, but on the bright side, i've been getting back into learning bach suites (his flute ones, and transcriptions of the cello suites). and will my half marathon be any faster this year, or will it continue its age-related slowing? we'll see. the last few years i was hopeful, and slower. this year i'll be realistic (and probably slower again).
