2025-11-16: slow time

for what feels like the first time in forever, i have a slow weekend. this isn't entirely true: yesterday i was running errands for almost four hours — a lot of driving outside the city, unfortunately — before i got home. but then i settled in. one of our friends' moms brought over homemade turkey soup (a long-standing arrangement: whenever we roast a turkey, we give her the carcass, she makes a big pot of soup, and we get some of it). excellent as always, with slices of chewy, toasted pumpernickel. the evening then mine. practiced my fiddle a bit. watched tv with my partner.

today the only plans are to walk the dogs, maybe for a couple of hours, and watch the grey cup in the evening. saskatchewan vs montreal feels like a rematch of those late 2000s appearances where montreal won both. i guess on the plus side, anthony calvillo has been retired for more than a decade, so he can't hurt them anymore.

the rest of the day i plan to hunker down at the dining room table and work on things. my various little projects. keep a mug of hot chocolate with instant coffee going. it's not cold cold outside, but it's cold enough. it's mid november: for right now, it's actually pretty temperate.

had a concert the other night. it went really well. it's been really fulfulling playing with other people again, feeling the pre-concert nerves, sitting down under the lights, feeling the nerves evaporate as we start to play. a realization something had been missing from my life for a long time. a bad decision, righted. afterwards, we went to bp, ate, drank. i just had a couple of pepsis (i didn't have a designated driver). but the whole experience was just — it felt like a door opened up again, & people welcoming me back in.
