2026-04-02: oh, this is love
some years are weeks and some weeks are years. i don't mind saying the last few weeks have been really difficult: one of my oldest friends has been in and out of hospital, a distant acquaintance was found dead, having killed themselves with alcohol, one way or the other, slumped in a chair, their heart finally stopped. one of my dogs has been seeing the vet for some very serious health issues, to the point where we didn't know (and still don't) if he's going to live to see his fifth birthday. a call from my dad today: my mother and grandmother have both been in the emergency room the last couple days, for two different issues.
today after talking to my dad, and telling my partner, i went back downstairs to my office and tried to force myself to make headway on some of my work. a couple hours later, i started to smell onions, then tomato, then garlic. i go upstairs. she's in the midst of making a gigantic lasagna. i lean in to kiss her. she looks at me, pretending to be annoyed. did you have to wait until i was shredding the cheese. a small smile.
